Introduction:
India is among the oldest land formations in the world; in particular, the Deccan Plateau. The Geological formations here are rich in minerals, Granite being the most popular amongst them. Indian granites are unmatched in splendor and quality. Available in an array of rich colours, patterns, uniform texture and dense structures, these granites take very high polish and can match mirror finishes. India has vast resources of granite with about 110 varieties of different colours and textures. However, popular varieties are mainly found in South India. The first export of granite (black granite) from India dates back to 1925 from Kuppam, Chittor district, Andhra Pradesh to the United Kingdom, for use as a tombstone. Since then the industry has made rapid strides and today India ranks fifth in the world in the production of raw granite and blocks and third in the export of finished products (granite slabs, tiles and monuments).
ZMDPL :
Zoom Mineral Development Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Zoom Developers Pvt. Ltd. has its own Black granite ( Zoom Black ) quarry situated about 30 Kms. south of Hassan, a district located in between Mangalore and Bangalore ( NH-48 ) at about 150 Kms. and 200 Kms. respectively, in Karnataka State. The climatic condition in this area is moderate with temperature averaging in the range of 15°C to 28°C and the annual rainfall is in the range of 80 to 100 inches.
The mineral deposit is part of North-Eastern portion of Doddabetta hill range. The deposit has boulders with underlying sheet rock spread over 60 acres. The rock formation is very compact (uniform texture and colour) and deep seated, extending beyond 100 mtrs.
Product and Properties:
The Dolerite rock commercially called Granite is very hard basic igneous rock primarily composed of feldspar, quartz, othopyroxene, olivine and augite minerals. It is visibly homogenous in texture and is the most common volcanic rock of the Earth's crust, formed by the cooling of magma at depth.
Hardness:
It is the hardest dimensional stone; on account of its hardness it is very resistant to weathering and takes complete Mirror polish.
Porosity:
Zoom Black has almost negligible porosity ranging between 0.2% to 4%.
Variation:
Zoom Black shows consistency in colour and texture. It also possesses high load bearing capacity, abrasive strength, crushing strength; amenability to cutting and shaping without secondary flaws; ability to yield thin and large slabs; and above all, durability. Due to its dense grain it is impervious to stain.
Application :
The major applications are
Lounge walls and floor tiling;
Fire places;
Kitchen tops and vanity tops;
Bathroom walls and floors;
Furniture - bed, benches, bath tubs, side tables, stools, and garden furniture;
Monuments; and
Steps.
Supply :
Buyers should specify their requirement of material ( Rough blocks or cut and Polished slabs).If it is rough blocks, the requirement is for Gangsaw or cutter size etc with clear mention of probable 1st,2nd,and 3rd sizes. In case the requirement is Cut & Polished slabs, what is the L* H * T ( Length*Height*Thickness ) specification and quantity requirement for various sizes and thickness.
