MANAGEMENT OF KOLHAPUR MUNICIPAL SOLID
WASTE THROUGH PRODUCTION OF ORGANIC FERTILIZERS

Zoom Group through its SPV Zoom Bio-Fertilizer Pvt Ltd (ZBPL) is operating a Solid Waste Management project on a BOOT model at Kolhapur for production of Organic Fertilizers.

The project was awarded to ZBPL by Kolhapur Municipal Corporation ( KMC) through a tendering process.

A concessionaire agreement was signed between KMC and ZBPL on 11th Sept 2000 to establish a Solid Waste Management plant.

The existing dumping site was leased as the project site to ZBPL for a period of 30 years at a nominal annual lease rent of Rs 1 per sq.mt.

The scope of ZBPL is to convert the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) deposited at the project site to organic fertilizer.

The technology for the conversion of MSW to organic fertilizer has been provided by Dr. Sudhir Ghatnekar of Bio-Technology Resource Centre (BRC), Mumbai.

Dr. S Ghatnekar is a renowned scientist and a student of Dr M.S Swaminathan, the father of the Indian Green Revolution.

Revenue generation for the project would be obtained from sale of fertilizer to farmers, co-operative societies and other end users.
